Class description: Lisa Mitchell, will introduce the concepts for creating a strong still life composition by teaching students how to design with shapes of light and shadow. Students will learn the principle of the "Notan" sketch to plan their composition. Friday morning will begin with a discussion about the medium of pastels followed by a still life Notan and pastel demonstration from the instructor. Participants will then set up a still life. They will spend the rest of the day composing a Notan sketch and working on drawing their concept onto their pastel surface. The instructor will provide assistance as needed throughout the day. Saturday will be spent completing the still life pastel painting. There will be a group critique at the end of the day.
