Mary Swann is primarily an outdoor landscape painter. She and her husband, Josh Brumfield, live and work on a farm in northern Baltimore County. Many of Mary's paintings are done nearby, though she enjoys painting in other places-Southwestern Nova Scotia, for one--when she has a chance.
Mary is a graduate of both MICA and Radcliffe College. She also attended the New York Studio School. Her work has been shown in various juried exhibitions around the country, as well as in Baltimore at the former Gomez Gallery and the former Paper Rock Scissors Gallery. She is currently represented by the Fleckenstein Gallery in Baltimore.
Her paintings, prints, and narrative quilts are in many private collections. Seven of her quilts belong to Harford Community College, and a print of hers is in the collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Swann likes her paintings to look as if they were done in the weather, with swishes of air and paint, dabs of capturing color, and sudden veers of the hand along branches or rising clouds.
