Stewart is a watercolorist from Baltimore, Maryland. He studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and graduated from UC Berkeley with a BFA. He works as an architectural illustrator and designer and is one of those rare plein air painters who works in watercolor. His understanding of structure and style, coupled with a command of his medium, place him in the purest tradition of watercolor painters.
His watercolors have won him many awards both for his architecture illustrations and in plein air painting competitions. In June 2009 he was invited to teach a workshop in Paris on his techniques for architectural watercolors to an organization of architects.
Stewart is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein-Air Painters Association (MAPAPA). He exhibits his paintings in juried and gallery exhibitions on the East Coast and in Plein Air competitions. He was the Grand Prize winner in 2009 Plein Air Easton.
