Thank you for volunteering to lead the congregation in The Prayers of the People.
The Book of Common Prayer states the six forms of The Prayers of the People from page 383-395.
- Ten minutes or so before the beginning of the service, please pick up a copy of both the colored bulletin with the lists of particular prayer requests and the white worship 9 bulletin. Please ask the celebrant if there are any additional prayer requests.
- Prayers of the People are usually found just after The Nicene Creed on the white bulletin. This will indicate which form to use.
- Prior to the start of the service the prayer leader should ensure that the prayer leader's white binder is on the desk portion of the kneeler by the altar. Please turn the page to the correct prayer form.
- You will lead the congregation's prayers and this usually occurs after the congregation states the Nicene Creed. Then the priests will turn towards the congregation to await the prayer leader. No announcement by the priest is made.
- The Prayer Leader leaves the pew, approaches the altar, bows before entering in front of the gate and goes over to the kneeler.
- On the kneeler is the white binder holding the script for the Prayer Leader. This is a well detailed script for the prayer leader to follow as he leads the congregation. The instructions indicate when and where to add particular prayer requests, memorials and thanksgivings.
- The celebrant then reads the Collect at the Prayers and announces The Peace. At this point the prayer leader rises from the kneeler and returns to his pew.
