Children's Ministries
Our mission is to provide a positive, loving environment in which a child can learn about faith, find friends, and have fun. To introduce the children to the Bible, our Episcopal faith and create a greater bond with the church and the parish community.

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.' And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

  Sunday School

2007-2008 Sunday School Schedule

Sunday School runs from mid-September through early June each year at 10:15 in the parish house. Children and their families are also invited to attend the Family Eucharist each Sunday at 9 A.M. and then have a short snack before going to Sunday School. Worship is an important part of a child's development and is the laboratory for the material presented in the classes.

  The Sunday School Curriculum

Cribbery
Meets in the room next to the Children's Ministries Office.

Children younger than three years of age are invited to spend Sunday mornings in our cribbery. The Cribbery is a co-op. Though we have regular teenage volunteers each week, an adult is required to be in the room with them. The parents who use the Cribbery are expected to sign up for the Sundays on which they can serve as the supervising adult.

The 3 and 4-year-old Program
Meets in the pre-first classroom.

This curriculum was created by our teachers last year and was extremely successful. The lessons follow the same general pattern as our Godly Play lessons: Old Testament stories in the fall, Christmas and Liturgical stories in the winter, Parables in the spring.

The Godly Play Program
For children in Kindergarten through 4th grades. All children meet in the Susan Tucker Moore room for singing and are then escorted to their classrooms.

We tell the children stories using props to "act out" the lesson. There are Old Testament and New Testament stories, Liturgical stories which explain the traditions of the Episcopal Church (Baptism, the Church calendar, Communion, etc.), and stories about the lives of Saints. We have found the children respond well to this form of teaching and have successfully used the Godly Play curriculum as part of our program for about 10 years.

Kindergarten and pre-1st grades: located in the Godly Play room next to the Children's Chapel

1st and 2nd grades: located in the Godly Play room next to the Choir room

3rd and 4th grades: located in the Children's Chapel

5th, 6th and 7th grade program
The 5th, 6th and 7th graders meet each week in room 202.

8th - 12th grades
We do not have a Sunday School program for this age group, but invite these students to work in our Cribbery or help in a Godly Play classroom. If you are in the 8th - 12th grades and are interested in working with our Sunday School please contact Kelly Francis or just meet in the Sunday School office during the 10:15am service on Sunday.
