What language shall I borrow
To thank thee, dearest friend,
For this thy dying sorrow,
Thy pity without end?
Oh, make me thine forever!
And should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never
Outlive my love for thee.
(Paul Gerhardt)
Debra’s Midweek Meditation
"My God, My God,
Why hast Thou forsaken me?"
Psalm 22
How can I hear these words each Holy Week and not wonder, along with the Psalmist,
why has God forsaken this person of prayer-
this one who has done no harm, but
has been a divine example of love?
But, here is the surprise of our Saviour.
Having been faithful unto death, the Christ is now faithful unto ultimate separation from the Father.
He has taken upon himself our sin-that sin which is our way of becoming separate from God.
He has become sin so that we might be saved.
He has given up his own deep intimacy with the Father to fully comprehend AND redeem our brokenness.
This, my blessed friends, is the Saviour of the World.
The One who loved
and served
and died--
because we were lost.
We do not have to continue to wander
or to be lost anymore.
We have been found.
The vision of Jesus on the cross, from the cross,
has stretched around the world like a comet of fire
to burn away our resistance
and melt away our fear.
Worship the One who died for you.
Bring whatever you have and whatever you are to the foot of the cross, and let yourself be consumed with the heavenly fire of salvation.
Blessings, Debra

Almighty, eternal, just and merciful God,
Grant us in our misery the grace
To do for you alone
What we know you want us to do,
And always
To desire what pleases you.
Thus,
Inwardly cleansed,
Interiorly enlightened,
And inflamed by the fire of the Holy Spirit
May we be able to follow
In the footprints of your beloved son
Our Lord Jesus Christ.
And,
By your grace alone,
May we make our way to you,
Most high,
Who live and rule
In perfect trinity and simple unity,
And are glorified
God all – powerful
Forever and ever. AMEN
