Online Stations of the Cross

Paintings by David O'Connell, and are the stations that hang in St. Richards, Chichester, England.

The meditations are a revised form of those found in the Book of Occasional Services, along with added hymns and poems.

First Station
Jesus is condemned to death

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

As soon as it was morning, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him to Pilate. And they all condemned him and said, “He deserves to die.” When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. Then he handed Jesus over to them to be crucified.

O sacred head, sore wounded, defiled and put to scorn;

O Kingly head, surrounded, with mocking crown of thorn:
What sorrows mars thy grandeur? Can death thy bloom deflower?
O countenance whose splendor the hosts of heaven adore!

All-powerful God,
By the suffering and death of your Son,
Strengthen and protect us in our weakness.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
One God, for ever and ever.
