Charlie Barton, Rector
Saint James is a place where one can engage with the wisdom of the ages found in scripture, two thousand years of Christian practice, and the strength of a faithful local community. We have worshiped here since 1750. Saint James has deep roots. But new shoots continue to burst forth. Why? - Because the Holy Spirit chooses to continue to enliven long time members and to attract new ones. We value people who have been here for generations and we welcome new members. We have the expectation that every person who comes here has gifts that can build up the body.
Faithful Christian living requires a balance of prayer, study, stewardship and action. Worship forms and prepares us for life. Prayer and study are the very things that allow us to envision and undertake right actions. When our life is grounded in God, our work in the world becomes the means through which God can change us and others.
The ways we view, and use, our time, talent and treasure form us as surely as the prayers we say or the things we do in worship. Stewardship is the concrete expression of our priorities in life- our calendars and our checkbooks display what we actually value most. The challenge for most of us as we move through life is to keep focused on things that are truly essential in spite of all the competing claims on our time and attention. We want to be intentional about stewardship because the way we use our resources is a statement of our faith.
Prayer, study, stewardship and action are the means of Christian formation at Saint James. We gather here to help one another find, and be found by, the God who loves us. You are looking at this site because something has drawn you here. Come and be with us. Then let's discover, together, that to which God is calling us.

Loree Penner, Associate Rector
As we the church continue the disciplines of prayer, study, stewardship, and action, we join a long line of pilgrims who came before us on this spiritual journey. The Formation of our Christian lives begins at Baptism and continues each day. As children, our primary catechists are our parents, who pass down their own faith stories, and their adventures in prayer and the reading of scripture throughout the years of childhood. As young persons, we begin to move beyond the parental influence, seeking other adults who are able in turn to share their experiences on the journey of faith. As adults, we seek community with those who are also walking the spiritual path. Bible studies, book groups, and our 19 church communities make this fellowship possible.
Christian Formation for all ages at St. James begins with our Cribbery, Sunday School through grade 4, Youth Ministry grades 5-12, and adult gatherings throughout the week. We take the deepening of our faith seriously.
We invite you to do the same. Join us for the CS Lewis Book Study, or the Wednesday Bible Study, or the Friday Theology Study, or for Contemplative Prayer…and find both communion with God and community with others.
