You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all; and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
2 Corinthians 3:2-3

You are the letter that God is writing to the world.

Journaling that begins with prayer and reflection helps you begin to articulate for yourself the outlines of that letter.

A typical time of writing might include -
Reading Scripture
Quiet Contemplation
On the scripture -
What is God saying to you - today?

I often begin a journal entry with a bit of the scripture to locate myself within the prayer context.

Then, as my hand moves across the page and I am freed from editing, things that may have been silent during prayer come to be written in front of my eyes.

I am now able to ponder this new insight and offer it to God.

Journaling within prayer becomes part of the prayer itself and leads me more deeply into the heart of God.

"And I have felt a presence that disturbs me,
Whose dwelling is in the light of setting Suns."
Wordsworth

The experience of having been disturbed is so elemental and true in my own encounters with God -
The sunset
-the night sky
-the surprise breeze that carries sounds or breath
or experiences from a different place.

Today I walked under God's sky through rain and drizzle and next to the full sounds of the Little Falls.

I was embraced by the wild sounds of water and held within my own desire to do better for myself -
To keep my body moving -
To remember what I am made of
