Symbol
Saint Peter the Apostle
Confession of St. Peter January 18

Peter is the name Christ gave to Simon, a Jewish fisherman from Galilee. When Simon confessed to Jesus, "You are the Christ", Jesus responded "You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church." Peter was one of the most influential leaders in the early Church.

Symbol: The keys remind us of Jesus’ words, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven." (Matthew 16) Sometimes, the inverted cross is shown with the keys representing Peter’s crucifixion with his head downward.
