Saint James Church Altar Guild Checklist

 

 
SATURDAY CHECKLIST

  1. Check calendar for the color of the day and for baptisms, weddings, etc.
  2. Set out burse, chalice veil, chasuble and stole in correct color. Place chasuble on altar rail if Charlie is celebrant. If Loree is celebrant, leave chasuble in sacristy. Place stole on safe in sacristy.
  3. Place correct color liner inside alms basins.
  4. Check fair linen, credence table cloth, and retable cloth to be sure all are clean and pressed. Extra linens are in the drawers behind the organ.
  5. Set out the linens that will be needed:
    • 7 Purificators
    • Pall
    • 2 Post Communion Veils
    • Corporal
    • 2 Lavabo Towels
    • 1 Round linen
  6. Place round linen on organ for oblations.
  7. Vest chalices and set up pottery for 9:00 service
    • Large Chalice with Priest's host on paten, one purificator and post communion veil in burse.
    • Small chalice with purificator and paten.
    • 2 Pottery Chalices with purificators
    • 2 Pottery Patens; place Priest's host and post communion veil on one.
    • Small Plate with 2 non-wheat wafers (found in aumbry).
  8. Fill wine cruets
    Check amount of consecrated wine in aumbry. If decanter is full or almost full, put only 1" wine in the 8:00 cruet so Priest will use consecrated wine. If decanter is empty, fill the 8:00 cruet and tell Priest we need extra wine for the reserve. Otherwise:
    • 8:00 - to silver band (In summer months, fill the cruet).
    • 9:00 - 2/3 full.
    • 10:15 - full.
  9. Fill water cruets - 2/3 full.
  10. Place wafers in ciborium and bread boxes. Check the consecrated wafers in the aumbry. If the container is full or almost full, place only 2 or 3 wafers in the 8:00 bread box.
    • 8:00 - 60
    • 9:00 - 60
    • 10:15 - 150 (100 in ciborium and 50 in breadbox)
  11. Remove dust covers from altar, retable and credence table; place in top drawer behind organ.
  12. Place corporal on altar.
  13. Check candles and wick in candle lighter. Replace as needed. Always use candle extenders on pace candles. Candle pieces should be placed in candle box in sacristy cabinet to be used by the Academy. Make sure there are matches on pace candle by Bishop's chair and on one of the torches.
  14. Check level of water in the font. Add Holy Water (in marked jug) if necessary. Clean glass liner once a month or as needed.
  15. Place bulletins in narthex and on small round table by font.
  16. Place one bulletin on each chair behind altar.
  17. Hymn boards
    • Week number and season or day. If the words don't fit, just use number and season (e.g., 10 Pentecost.)
    • Place last hymn number on both boards for 8:00 service.
    • Place remaining hymn numbers on window ledges for 10:15 service.
  18. Place missal stand on altar. Remove flannel bag and place in top cabinet drawer with dust covers.
  19. Place Altar Book on missal stand - Charlie uses the black book; Loree uses the red book.
  20. Place Gospel book on retable in center.
  21. If needed, replace runner on table in narthex. Clean runner is hanging in sacristy closet with vestments.
  22. If needed, place additional pew cards and pencils in pews.
